Dorothy Chia Piano Lessons, Forte Music Training (Woodlands)

Principal Piano Teacher Dorothy Chia has taught piano in Singapore for more than 20 years, and her Woodlands studio at 895A Woodlands Drive 50 is one of three locations, alongside Potong Pasir and Seletar Hills, where lessons run from complete beginner to advanced Piano Diploma level. Her credentials are the kind parents check first: a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and the 1992 DH Baldwin Fellowship, an award she alone among Singaporeans holds. Teaching philosophy matters as much as qualifications here, because Dorothy does not believe in hot-housing very young beginners; instead students grow through a holistic, all-rounded music education meant to serve them into adult life, with passion for music placed above examination results alone. That same outlook shapes her second role, coaching and mentoring piano teachers across Singapore, and her writing: Piano Pedagogy, The Questions and The Answers, a workbook for teachers working on the viva voce component of teaching exams, and Theory Explorer, two theory books for music beginners aged four to seven. Families can reach the Woodlands listing on 9111 6321, and the listing carries a trial-lesson enquiry route for questions about level placement, studio location, and first-lesson arrangements.
