Drum Tutor

Six studios, one syllabus, and a founder who still writes it: that is the shape of Drum Tutor, a drum school founded in 2016 by award-winning drummer Er Chow Kiat. It names six islandwide outlets at Beauty World Plaza, Katong Shopping Centre, Grandlink Square, Orchard Plaza, ICB Shopping Centre, and Concorde Shopping Centre, with online one-to-one lessons from home as the alternative. Lessons follow the school's proprietary Beat by Beat syllabus, conceptualised by Chow Kiat, a LASALLE and Musicians Institute (USA) graduate who earned that college's Outstanding Student Award, is an endorsed Zildjian and TAMA artist, and has toured with JJ Lin and Angela Chang and performed at the National Day Parade and Chingay. Programmes are cut by age: Ankle-Biter for ages 4 to 6 on junior kits, with a parent sitting in for the first four lessons; Tween for ages 7 to 12 on full kits; Downbeat 101, Rookie, Rocker, and Rockstar for teenagers and adults from 13 up; a short School's Out holiday course; and graded exam preparation from Initial or Debut to Grade 8 across ABRSM, Rockschool (RSL), Trinity, and LCM. Tutors are trained on the syllabus and assessed before they teach. Studios run by appointment, and a complimentary short trial lesson is available subject to slot availability.
