FM Pop Music School

Since 2007, FM Pop Music School has taught from The Yards at 406 Joo Chiat Place, #04-21, Singapore 428084, under Mandopop veterans Eric Ng, lyricist Xiaohan and producer-singer Jim Lim of Funkie Monkies. Its core is writing songs, not just playing them: melody composing and songwriting programmes sit alongside pop vocal and guitar lessons, and every student is taught at their own pace through what the school calls experiential learning. Students of all ages and walks of life are welcome, from beginners to aspiring professional singer-songwriters, and the school adds performance and recording opportunities to classroom learning. Its industry ties are part of the pitch: mm2 Asia is a strategic partner, it is affiliated with The Songwriter Music College, Funkie Monkies Publishing and Funkie Monkies Entertainment, and it has been praised by Warner Chappell Music and artists including Wakin Chau, Jonathan Lee and Khalil Fong. Alumni named by the school include published songwriters Kenny Khoo, Ming Bridges, Serene Koong and Wu Jiahui, whose work has been recorded by stars such as A-mei, Stefanie Sun and Jolin Tsai. Periodic trial workshops are advertised, and signing up with a friend earns everyone 10% off under the Funkie Friends promotion. Enquiries go to 8824 0146.
