Grooveworks

Grooveworks is a jazz mentorship programme in Singapore, founded by British saxophonist, composer and educator Greg Lyons and now continued by his mentees. Rather than one-to-one lessons, musicians are matched into bands by skill level, schedule availability and musical profile, then rehearse and perform together each week. The programme welcomes everyone from absolute beginners in jazz to pro-level players, so a band can be a first step into ensemble playing or a working outlet for an experienced musician. Sessions run from a fully equipped studio at 195 Pearl's Hill Terrace, #02-60, and each eight-week term builds a unique repertoire over two and a half hours a week with your band. The term ends with the Grooveworks Festival, a live showcase at The Jazz Loft at Blu Jaz on Bali Lane. Mentoring comes from Singapore jazz musicians including Rick Smith on guitar, Andreas Marinello on saxophone, Keith Ong on bass and Amery Reuben on keyboards. Alongside the main programme, Grooveworks runs HornWorks, a horn-section course for wind players led by Marinello, and Multiform, an ongoing Sunday jazz ensemble open to all instruments.
