About

Get to know us.

Guitar Jalan Tiga is the private teaching practice of Ray, a guitar teacher working from a home studio at 47 Jalan Tiga, near Mountbatten MRT station, with lessons also available at the student's home. Ray played in bands around Singapore in his teens, then studied at the Souza Lima Conservatory in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and completed a music performance degree programme at the London College of Contemporary Music, before returning to Singapore and working at Aureus Academy and Etonhouse for a few years. He has taught private lessons since. Lessons are one-to-one and usually run thirty, forty-five or sixty minutes, with per-lesson rates stated on his site as ranging from fifty to ninety dollars depending on location and duration, and he teaches ages eight and above. Repertoire centres on contemporary music: soul, rhythm and blues, rock, pop and some bossa and jazz standards, with students typically learning melody, rhythm parts and guitar solos and playing arrangements together with Ray. Every lesson also includes rhythm and aural drills, which Ray describes as meditative and grounding as well as useful for musicality. Players who have already played for a few years can work on harmony and improvisation, including chord construction, scales and arpeggios applied to improvising or songwriting. The studio phone is 8869 4707.
