Guitarworks

Guitarworks is the one-teacher acoustic guitar practice of Alan, who has played guitar since 2002 and taught since March 2010. Only acoustic guitar is taught here: electric, bass and classical are explicitly not offered, and every student works from a lesson plan Alan designed himself, handed over at the first lesson. Lessons take place at Alan's place rather than at students' homes, so no travel charge arises, and a guitar is provided for the lesson, although students who drive often bring their own. A trial lesson is free with no strings attached: it is a chance to meet, see the syllabus presented and demonstrated, and ask questions, with no obligation to continue. Alan accepts students aged 12 and above, explaining that younger fingers often struggle to press chords cleanly, and he caps his week at 18 students. As a guide, a basic foundation takes 30 to 40 weeks through the Beginner programme, with the Intermediate programme adding a further 30 to 40 weeks. His stated credential is a Grade 5 Theory certificate from ABRSM, and his teaching style is patient and encouraging, built on observation and communication rather than comparison with other teachers.
