He Yue Zhai - Guqin lesson 龢樂斋古琴艺术中心（＂He Yue Zhai＂Guqin Music and Arts Centre）

Step into one of China's oldest arts at He Yue Zhai Music and Arts Centre, 520 Sims Avenue, #02-05, Singapore 387580, where the guqin takes centre stage. The guqin is a seven-stringed zither played for more than 3,000 years, once expected of scholars and often used to accompany poetry, and the centre's classes teach both its history and its technique to learners of all ages and experience levels, at their own pace, with performance opportunities to share music with the community. Teachers are described as experienced guqin players devoted to the art form. Guqin lessons cover the basics of playing and reading guqin notation, and the centre also teaches the xiao, the Chinese bamboo flute, alongside tea ceremony and tea appreciation. The wider programme reflects the Four Arts of the Chinese Scholar: qin (guqin), qi (the board game Go), shu (calligraphy) and hua (Chinese painting). Visits are by appointment only, on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 5pm, and on weekdays by phone or WhatsApp. Call +65 6528 9137 or WhatsApp 8171 3892, or email the addresses published on the centre's site.
