Our story

JCMS began as a small studio in Johor Bahru. On 1 August 2019, Paulin Leong and Danny opened Jazz Classical Music Studio to give students both structure and creative freedom. Paulin studied Classical Piano Performance and Jazz Studies in Duluth, Minnesota, and has taught for 17 years across Malaysia, the USA and Singapore. Danny is Co-Founder and Managing Director, working across classical and contemporary styles and managing curriculum development.

Lessons and programmes

JCMS teaches pop piano through reusable arrangement skills: you learn to take a lead sheet (melody and chords) and build a playable version at your level, instead of copying a single fixed arrangement.

The studio also shares hundreds of tutorials on its YouTube channel, started on 22 August 2019, and offers free community access for online learners.
