New Horizon Music Society

New Horizon Music Society is a choral society based at 365 Holland Road, Allsworth Park, reachable on 6467 1498, and its own site traces its story back to March 1991. It began then as an ad hoc female ensemble called the Oriental Choir, founded by Chinese-Singaporean writer Mrs Kuo Effie Lo, and in November 1991 Mr Li Lie Gang, a vocalist and head of the music department at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, was engaged as its conductor and vocal teacher. Under his leadership the choir grew in choral music, registered formally in 1995 as the Oriental Choir Association, and in February 1999 changed its name to New Horizon Music Society to widen its musical activities, gaining charity status effective 5 October 1999. Professor Li Lie Gang remains its artistic director. The society's site presents photo and video galleries of its performances, and it invites support through donations via the National Arts Council's give2arts.sg portal. It is a choir and choral society, not an instrument lesson school, so anyone hoping to join should ask the society directly about membership and rehearsals, which the pages read do not describe.
