Real Proper Singing Lessons

Real Proper Singing Lessons is a singing studio built around teacher Yvette Atienza, whom its own site describes as a pioneer of the Singapore music scene since 1989 and a highly regarded singing teacher. The site says she holds a Trinity Guildhall Singing Performance Diploma, has sung professionally for thirty years, and teaches across musical theatre, jazz, R&B, pop, classical and Latin jazz, including the difficult field of jazz improvisation, in seven languages. Her teaching, as the site presents it, centres on breathing from the diaphragm in the proper place, genuinely relaxing and opening the throat, and learning to read music and its rudiments alongside technique, so students can sing well and confidently rather than strain for high and low notes. Lessons are individual or in groups and pairs, for children as young as six through adults of sixty, and she also teaches beginner piano for singers. The site says she prepares students for Trinity and ABRSM singing exams, as well as Rock School and AMEB, and for auditions to musicals and overseas music schools. The listing base is 245 Whitley Road, Tanglin CC, and the school's own contact section also lists a Peninsula Shopping Centre studio used on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The contact number is 9651 2921.
