STACCATO

STACCATO! is a Singapore music school offering piano lessons in Singapore and early childhood music classes, with a main studio at Bukit Timah Plaza, 1 Jalan Anak Bukit. Founded in 2009 by Dr Lee Pei Ming, the school teaches classical music to children and adults in what it calls a fun, creative and unconventional way: "Classical with Creativity".

Lessons and programmes

• Early childhood music and movement (MIND curriculum) for ages 6 months to 6 years, taught in groups with a parent or caregiver: Baby Mozart (6 months to 1.5 years), Beethoven Toddler (1.5 to 2.5 years) and Chopin Preschooler (2.5 to 3.5 years). Classes run 45 minutes, once a week, 24 lessons per semester.
• Bach Lab group keyboard for ages 3.5 and above, 60 minutes a week over four semesters, covering piano technique, sight-reading, aural training, basic theory, composition and improvisation.
• Individual piano lessons for children and adults.
• Elite Program for Young Talents (EPYT): weekly individual lessons, a bi-weekly musicianship class, recitals, masterclasses, competitions and, for students applying for Direct School Admission (DSA) through music, two sessions of interview preparation.

• Lessons draw on the Orff, Suzuki, Kodaly and Dalcroze approaches, mixing singing, instruments, movement, theory and classical music listening.
• Students explore composers and their music, and are encouraged to improvise, compose and perform.
• Founder Dr Lee Pei Ming holds a DMA in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Michigan and was previously an Assistant Professor at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, NUS.
