The Radiant Spectrum is a music school for special needs children in Singapore, offering adapted piano lessons and group music classes at International Plaza, 10 Anson Road. Its teachers are special education (SPED) trained and work with children and young adults, including learners with autism (ASD), ADHD, intellectual disability, selective mutism, speech delay and gross and fine motor skill delay. The school describes itself as the first and only music education centre in Singapore that conducts music lessons specifically for children with special needs.
Lessons and programmes
- Individual piano lessons: one-to-one lessons with a customised curriculum and gradual skill introduction, from finger exercises to note reading, two-hand playing and duets. Parent or caregiver attendance is optional.
- Group music classes: 45-minute classes for children aged 8 and below, with 4 to 6 children per class, using handbells, xylophones, glockenspiels, egg shakers and other instruments, plus songs, movement and games. Parents do not need to accompany.
- ABRSM piano and theory: students have the opportunity to sit formal ABRSM piano and music theory exams.
- Annual concerts and recitals: all students are encouraged to perform.
Trial assessment first
Every student attends a trial assessment before signing up. Educators get to know the child, assess current music skills and attention, speak with parents, and then design an individualised education plan and assign a suitable teacher. A formal diagnosis is not required.
