The Ultra Studio

At 5 Coleman Street, basement units B1-22/26 of Excelsior Shopping Centre, The Ultra Studio is a jamming studio built for rental rather than a conventional lesson school. Its own site describes a city-centre space next to Funan, set up for drums, guitar, keyboard and vocal self-practice, with freelance private teachers in vocal, guitar, keyboard, drums and bass also hiring rooms by the hour. Equipment named on the site includes Marshall, Fender, Roland, Yamaha, Hartke, Boss, Blackstar and Korg gear. The drum studio rents from $15 an hour with Yamaha Recording Custom drum sets, the eight-person jamming studio from $33 an hour on a three-hour booking, and the live studio, which fits 20 people, from $36 an hour on a three-hour booking. Call 8338 2141 to check availability, and note that lesson times, teacher credentials and age ranges are not published on the studio's site. The listing page also invites a trial-lesson or consultation request, with a stated response within 24 hours.
