Looking for advanced piano lessons in Singapore? Josephine Koh Piano Academy (JKPA) is an ABRSM and diploma piano specialist studio at Binjai Park in Bukit Timah, founded by Bösendorfer Artist, conductor and educator Josephine Koh. The academy was established in 1995 and trains gifted children, advanced students and adults preparing for piano examinations and performance diplomas.
Lessons and programmes
- Graded ABRSM piano courses for students preparing for ABRSM exams from Grade 4 to Grade 8, with scales, sight-reading, aural tests and repertoire. Lessons up to Grade 5 include music theory.
- Gifted Music Programme for talented young pianists, with accelerated training, masterclasses, concerts and competitions.
- Diploma piano courses towards ARSM, LRSM, FRSM, ATCL, LTCL and FTCL, including consultation lessons for music teachers and online consultation lessons for students outside Singapore.
- Music theory classes for ABRSM Grades 6 to 8, plus AMusTCL and LMusTCL theory diplomas.
- Music Elective Programme (MEP) support for students taking Music at O-Level and A-Level.

Students are mentored within a structured artistic environment led by Josephine Koh, and taught by teachers trained in the JKPA method under her direction. The academy combines the technical discipline of the Russian piano school with the European conservatoire tradition, and its teaching blends technical excellence with intellectual depth.
All students are performance trained. Regular performance classes are modelled on European conservatoire training, and students take part in concerts, masterclasses and competitions, including the annual JKPA Young Students' Recital. The academy is also an Authorised ABRSM Teaching Diploma Centre, appointed on 17 November 2025.
Admissions and location
Practical lessons are by audition and interview. Graded programme applicants are aged 6 to 15, and the academy does not currently have availability for beginners up to Grade 3. Students at graded and Associate diploma levels learn at 29B Binjai Park, Singapore 589831, about a 7 minute walk from King Albert Park MRT station (Downtown Line). Licentiate and Fellowship diploma students are trained on two grand pianos at a second location at Jalan Keria. Visits are by appointment only.

Common questions.
All students applying for practical lessons attend an audition and interview, and only selected students are admitted. The Graded ABRSM programme is open to students aged 6 to 15. The academy does not currently have availability for beginners up to Grade 3, though students aged 6 to 9 at Grade 4 or above may apply for the Gifted/Accelerated Music Programme.
Students are prepared for ABRSM graded examinations (Grades 5 to 8 through the graded courses), and for ABRSM and Trinity College London diplomas: ARSM, LRSM, FRSM, ATCL, LTCL and FTCL. Music theory classes cover ABRSM Grades 6 to 8.
Lessons are weekly: 45 minutes for Grade 4 (including music theory), 1 hour for Grade 5 (including music theory), and 1 hour for Grades 6 to 8.
The academy does not entertain last-minute changes. If a child is sick with an MC, the teacher gives a replacement class. No replacement is given for school activities or personal arrangements, though with at least 1 week's notice for school commitments the studio will try to arrange one.
All students have 4 weekly lessons in a month; there is no lesson and no fee in a fifth week. The academy closes for 1 week (chargeable) during Chinese New Year and 2 weeks (non-chargeable) in December. It is closed on public holidays and missed lessons are chargeable without replacement.
Graded and Associate diploma students are taught at 29B Binjai Park, Bukit Timah, Singapore 589831, about 7 minutes' walk from King Albert Park MRT station on the Downtown Line. Licentiate and Fellowship diploma students are trained on two grand pianos (an Ibach and a Bösendorfer) at the Jalan Keria location. Visits are by appointment only.
Yes. Group theory classes for ABRSM Grades 6, 7 and 8 are held on Saturdays and Sundays in 2026, grouped by age. The academy also offers AMusTCL and LMusTCL theory diploma courses and private lessons for students taking Music at O-Level and A-Level.
Yes. International students, or those residing outside Singapore, are welcome to take consultation lessons via online platforms.
