Looking for piano lessons in Singapore with a creative, all-round approach? Prelude Music Studio is a music school at 1 Goldhill Plaza #02-37, in the Novena area, set up in 2004 by international award-winner Rosy Chua. The school offers individual weekly lessons in classical piano, pop and jazz piano, composition and improvisation, music theory and cello, for students of all ages.
Lessons and programmes
- Classical piano: Baroque to contemporary repertoire with sight-reading, aural, technical work and theory, with optional ABRSM or London College of Music graded and diploma exams. Beginner fees are published as $180 for 4 lessons of 30 minutes (GST not included).
- Pop and jazz piano: playing-focused lessons with no set syllabus. Beginner fees are $240 for 4 lessons of 45 minutes; jazz repertoire needs some musical background.
- Composition and improvisation: $450 for 4 lessons of 45 minutes.
- Music theory: $160 for 4 lessons of 30 minutes, using books written by the Principal for the ABRSM online theory exam.
- Classical cello: an introductory beginner offer of $320 for 4 lessons of 45 minutes.
- Direct School Admission and concert preparation: $450 for 4 lessons of 45 minutes each.

Lessons are tailored to each student's goals, with an emphasis on creativity, versatility and enjoyment of music-making. Principal Rosy Chua has over 40 years of teaching experience and is on the Board of Examiners of the London College of Music. Students have achieved distinctions in ABRSM, LCM and Trinity exams and have performed at venues including Carnegie Hall in New York, Hong Kong Arts Centre and the Esplanade Recital Studio.
Exam centre and studio facilities
Prelude is an ABRSM-approved centre for online theory exams, and offers piano practice and exam-recording sessions and studio rental. The school is open Monday to Friday 11am to 9pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 7:30pm. A free trial lesson is available; enquire on 6250 5550 or by email.

Yes. Classical piano students can opt for graded and diploma exams from ABRSM or London College of Music. The school is also an ABRSM-approved centre for online theory exams, where candidates bring their own laptops.
The classical piano course and the pop and jazz piano course are open to all ages. Jazz and improvisation require some musical background.
Monday to Friday 11am to 9pm, and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 7:30pm. The school is closed on public holidays.
The school regulations state 44 lessons per year, or 11 every quarter, with no regular lessons during school holiday weeks.
