Looking for piano lessons in Singapore for your child or yourself? Takano Music Studio is an independent music school at Loft @ Nathan, 428 River Valley Road, near Robertson Quay. It opened in September 2017 and now runs family music classes for babies and toddlers, group piano for young children, and private lessons for children and adults.
Lessons and programmes
- Music Together™ family classes: mixed-age group classes for babies and young children with a parent or carer, built around songs, rhythm, movement and instruments. The studio is licensed by Music Together LLC.
- Group piano (ages 3 to 5): small groups of 3 to 4 children learning the basics of reading and writing musical scores, as an entry point before private lessons.
- Private piano lessons: one-on-one lessons for children and adults, with a curriculum designed for each new student. Children aged 3 to 8 have 30-minute lessons and children aged 9 and above have 45-minute lessons.
- Private vocal lessons: singing lessons that build voice and technique for students who want to sing with more confidence.
Why students choose Takano Music Studio
The studio is led by its founder and director, Shizuka Takano, who studied piano performance at Ferris University in Yokohama, trained through the Asia Pacific Program at the Royal College of Music in London, and became a certified Music Together instructor in 2017. Teachers Tomoko (piano and vocal) and Ryo (piano) bring conservatory and performance backgrounds from Japan, the United States and France. In 2022 the studio moved to new premises on River Valley Road with two purpose-renovated studios.
Lessons follow terms through the year, and new students can join mid-term with pro-rata fees. The studio describes its lessons as a place for creativity, discipline and confidence, with no exams or performance pressure in Music Together classes.

Takano Music Studio's FAQ says the classes are tailored for children aged 0 to 6 years, and the Music Together page describes family classes for babies and young children with a parent or carer.
Yes. If you enrol during the term, the tuition fee is charged pro-rata through the studio's online booking tool.
It depends on the class, with a maximum of 4 families.
Payment in full for the whole term is made before the first lesson. Bank transfer is preferred, and cash or cheques payable to Takano Music Studio Pte Ltd are also accepted. You can also pay by credit or debit card through the online booking tool, which carries a 6% booking fee.
Spring Term is April to June, Summer Term is July to September, Fall Term is October to December and Winter Term is January to March.
Children aged 3 to 8 have 30-minute lessons and children aged 9 and above have 45-minute lessons. Adults are also welcome, and the studio tailors a course to their needs.
Group piano is for children aged 3 to 5 in groups of 3 to 4, as an entry-level class that teaches the basics of reading and writing musical scores before moving on to private piano lessons.
Lessons cannot be moved to another day, but students who miss a session are invited to join one of the make-up sessions at the end of the term.
