The Sixth String

Looking for guitar lessons Singapore families and adults can rely on? The Sixth String is a guitar and ukulele specialist music school in Katong, on the east side of Singapore. Guitar is where the school started, and its teachers cover classical (nylon string), acoustic (steel string) and electric guitar, plus ukulele, piano/keyboard, bass and music theory.

Lessons and programmes

• Individual lessons: one-to-one courses of four lessons, with five intensity levels from Basic/Leisure (Debut) through to Master (Grade 7-8).
• Group lessons: pairs, groups of three to four, and groups of five to six, for ukulele, guitar and piano/keyboard.
• Exam preparation: ABRSM, Trinity Rock & Pop and LCM/RGT for students who want the graded route. Exams are optional, and many students learn purely for enjoyment.
• What you learn: posture, fretting and picking technique, open and barre chords, strumming patterns, fingerstyle, scales, reading chord charts, tab and standard notation, and theory as it applies to the instrument.

Fees

Fees are published on the school's website and depend on level and group size. For example, an individual Grade 1 course of four 45-minute lessons is S$195 nett, and group lessons range from S$100 to S$150 per person for a four-lesson course.

The main studio is at 50 East Coast Road, Roxy Square #01-53, Singapore 428769, with a practice studio at Katong Shopping Centre, 865 Mountbatten Road.
